Choosing your wedding makeup artist and hairstylist is one of the most personal decisions you’ll make while planning your big day. These are the people who will be by your side during the most emotional morning of your life, and their work shapes how you’ll look in photos you’ll treasure forever. At Beauty Icon NYC, we’ve worked with countless brides, and we’ve noticed that the same questions come up again and again. So we’ve gathered the most common ones and answered them honestly, to help you book with confidence.
1. How far in advance should I book?
The earlier, the better. Popular dates in New York, especially Saturdays from May through October, fill up quickly, and the most in-demand artists are often reserved months ahead. We recommend reaching out as soon as you’ve confirmed your wedding date, chosen your venue or getting-ready location, and have a rough idea of how many people need hair and makeup. That way, you’ll have your pick of the artist whose style you love most, and plenty of time to plan your trial without any rush.
2. Do I really need a trial?
We highly recommend it, and here’s why: a trial brings peace of mind to both you and your artist. You’ll see your final look come to life before the big day, make any adjustments, and plan a second look for the reception if you’re considering one. When every detail is decided in advance, the time we set aside for your wedding morning runs smoothly, without delays or last-minute changes. During a trial, we talk through:
- Your personal style and the photos you’ve saved for inspiration
- Your dress, neckline, and accessories
- The lighting and atmosphere at your venue
- How comfortable you feel wearing makeup
We host trials at our studio in Midtown Manhattan, a space fully equipped for calm, detailed work, so you can focus on enjoying the process.
That said, a trial isn’t mandatory. If you already know exactly which hairstyle and makeup you want and feel confident about it, you can skip it. Just share your inspiration photos and details with us ahead of time, and your artist will arrive fully prepared.
3. What if I don’t usually wear makeup?
This is one of the most common questions we hear, and it’s completely normal. Many of our brides rarely wear makeup day to day and worry about feeling unlike themselves. Our philosophy is to enhance your natural beauty, not turn you into someone else. We adapt to your comfort level, whether that means a light, even complexion with a touch of color or full glam. You’ll always have a say, and we’ll never push a look you don’t love.
4. Do you work with all skin types and tones?
Absolutely. Our team works with clients of all ages, skin tones, and ethnicities. Every face is different, and we treat it that way. We carefully match shades to your undertone and choose textures that suit your skin type, whether it’s dry, oily, combination, or mature. The goal is makeup that looks natural both in person and on camera, under any lighting.
5. Will my makeup last all day?
We do everything we can to make your look last as long as possible. Your wedding day is long, so we use techniques and products designed to hold up through hugs, hours of photos, and dancing. That said, no one can fully predict how the day will unfold. Heat, humidity, and emotions all play a part, and a little shifting here and there is completely natural. That’s why we’re always honest with our brides: if you know you’re a crier, or your wedding falls on a hot summer day, we strongly recommend booking an artist for touch-ups. They’ll keep your makeup and hair fresh throughout the day, so you look just as radiant during the last dance as you did walking down the aisle.
6. I have sensitive skin. What should I do?
Let us know in advance, ideally when you first reach out. This gives us time to talk through your skin in detail, including any allergies, sensitivities, or recent skin treatments, and agree on a list of products together. Your artist will then arrive prepared with makeup that suits your skin and won’t cause a reaction. We also recommend a trial to test the products before the wedding. Even formulas you use every day can behave differently in a full bridal look, and a trial makes sure there are no surprises on the big day.
7. Can you take care of my whole bridal party?
Of course. We work with groups of any size and love making everyone feel their best. We regularly style brides and bridesmaids, mothers and grandmothers of the couple, flower girls and other little ones, as well as guests who want a polished look for the celebration. Our artists work with every skin tone, skin type, and age, so everyone in your party gets a look tailored to them. With a large team of artists, we build a detailed schedule that gets everyone ready on time, without rushing or stress, so the morning feels like part of the celebration.
8. Do you travel to my location?
Yes, and not only in New York. We come to your hotel, home, or venue anywhere in New York and New Jersey, and we travel worldwide for destination weddings. Wherever you’re getting married, if we can get there, we’ll be there, bringing everything needed to create a professional setup on site. That way, you can have the same trusted team whether you’re saying “I do” in Manhattan or overseas.
9. How much does it cost?
Pricing depends on a few factors: the services you choose, such as makeup, hair, or touch-ups, the number of people in your party, and your wedding date, since rates can vary between peak and off-peak season. Lashes are always included in our makeup service, so there are no hidden extras. For an exact quote, simply submit an inquiry and we’ll prepare a proposal tailored to your day.
10. How do we communicate before the wedding?
Every booking at Beauty Icon NYC comes with a dedicated manager who guides you through the entire process, from your first inquiry to your wedding day. Your manager is always within reach by phone, text, or email to answer questions, confirm your timeline, or update your plans. Planning a wedding comes with lots of details and last-minute changes, and our goal is to make the booking process as stress-free and enjoyable as possible.
